Watersheds Project
For our Churches and Schools Tree Growing Project, our partner organization Watersheds Ecosystem Conservation (WEC) have so far planted 3075 Melia Volkensii trees, locally known as 'Makau'. 1348 of these trees have been planted in churches with an average survival rate of 92.3% whilst the remaining 1727 have been planted across four schools with an average survival rate of 91.25%.
Based in Kitui, this project primarily focuses on planting the Makau specifically within schools and churches in order for them to benefit from the firewood resulting from the branches as well as offer shade. Moreover, Makau trees contribute to the sequestration of carbon dioxide, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change; in line with the goals of My Green Story.
